FNGCD unveils 70-strong Mip slate

Fox Networks Group Content Distribution (FNGCD) has announced more than 70 new titles for its Mipcom slate.

Espionage thriller Deep State stars Mark Strong

The selection includes high-end factual titles, formats and a range of dramas, including FNG’s first regional scripted commission for Europe and Africa, to be launched at an event in Cannes.

Deep State (8×60’) is an espionage thriller starring Mark Strong (Kingsman: The Golden Circle, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) with Matthew Parkhill (Rogue) as co-creator, writer, director and showrunner.

FNGCD will also debut the first two titles from National Geographic’s new scripted focus.

The Long Road Home (8×60’) is based on Martha Raddatz’s best-selling book of the same name and tells the story of the 2004 battle for Sadr City in Iraq.

The second Nat Geo show is The State, from award-winning writer/director Peter Kosminsky, a topical story about four Brits that leave their homes to join IS in Syria.

Joining FNGCD’s growing Turkish drama catalogue is big-budget 38×60’ series City of Secrets (Kayıtdışı). Produced by Karga Seven and set in Istanbul, the thriller follows an undercover agent looking to take down Turkey’s most dangerous crime lord.

City of Secrets is joined by Fox Turkey’s first ever action-adventure drama, Warriors (Savaşçi, 38×60’), which was unveiled at the LA Screenings. Production has now begun on a second season.

The Untold Truths (Deli Gönül, 30×60’) tells of a couple torn apart by lies and Man Up (Şevkat Yerimdar) is a popular culture-clash comedy that runs to two 38×60’ seasons.

From Latin America, FNGCD will launch acerbic and topical comedy Run Coyote Run (13×60’). A ratings winner in Mexico and with a second season commissioned ahead of its first transmission, it tells of two childhood friends, one Mexican, one American, who launch a business smuggling people across the border into the US.

One Against All (Um Contra Todos) arrives with two 8×60’ seasons under its belt and a third commissioned. It tells the story of a public defender who gets mistakenly arrested as a high-profile drug dealer.

Diana: In Her Own Words (1×120’) is a documentary produced by 1895 Productions for National Geographic featuring rarely and never-heard recordings of Princess Diana.

Dian Fossey: Secrets in the Mist (3×60’) tells the story of the naturalist’s life, legacy and untimely death. Sigourney Weaver narrates.

Hell on Earth: The Fall of Syria and the Rise of ISIS (1×120’), executive produced by duo Sebastian Junger and Nick Quested (Restrepo, The Last Patrol, Korengal), is a feature-length documentary chronicling Syria’s descent into chaos.

Year Million (6×60’) is a drama-documentary science series that explores what it will be like to be human one million years from now, while When Nature Calls (6×60’) follows six professional animal wranglers across the US.

FNGCD will also arrives in Cannes with a number of new formats. Grilled is a 10×60’ series in which would-be food entrepreneurs battle it out in a variety of restaurants to win seed funding to start their own business.

Design HQ is a 60-minute format from Condé Nast Productions that visits celebrity houses for transformation tips and makeover advice, with viewers encouraged to steal their style in simple, cost-effective ways.

Finally, Mygrations is a adventure competition format from October Films in which a ‘herd’ of humans follow the gruelling six-week route of the annual wildebeest migration in Africa, undertaking a range of challenges.
