Firebird Pictures enters The Room

Elizabeth Kilgarriff at Content London

CONTENT LONDON: BBC Studios-backed UK prodco Firebird Pictures has optioned the local remake rights to Spanish thriller series The Room from TF1-owned Newen Distribution.

Firebird was founded by former BBC execs Elizabeth Kilgarriff and Craig Holleworth earlier this year and will now adapt the series, which originally aired in Spain on Forta stations and HBO Spain.

The plot follows a high-ranking police officer who commits a murder and wants a young journalist to explain his motives to the public.

Kilgarriff and Holleworth left their respective roles as BBC drama senior commissioning editor and BBC head of business in March last year.

Kilgarriff joined BBC Commissioning in August 2015 from BBC Productions and has been responsible for Bodyguard, The Cry, JK Rowling’s series Strike and The ABC Murders.

She has also been credited on shows including Poldark, Doctor Foster season two, McMafia, Hard Sun, Informer, Luther and the forthcoming MotherFatherSon.

Holleworth has run business and operations for drama at BBC Films and its programmes acquisitions, working on shows such as Doctor Who, Peaky Blinders and His Dark Materials.
