Federation takes over WeMake

France’s Federation Entertainment has taken a majority stake in WeMake, the company it set up alongside Shine France’s former chief operating officer.

Pascal Breton’s Federation linked up with Bouchra Réjani last year to launch unscripted specialist WeMake.

Federation has now acquired a majority stake in the company, which has a catalogue of more than 20 original formats and has signed several coproduction and distribution agreements with players including John de Mol’s Talpa TV in Europe and Lionsgate and MGM in the US.

WeMake has also partnered with Live Nation Productions in the US to develop and produce a musical talent competition and has acquired French adaptation rights to the Belgian format Taboe.

Réjani, who spent seven years at Shine France before leaving in early 2017, said that new platforms were presenting fresh opportunities to unscripted companies.

“The arrival of new platforms on the unscripted market is shaking up the game for the greater benefit of creation. The race between networks and their studios and these new players is boosting the entire sector to launch new, original and cost-effective formats. At WeMake, just like at Federation, we bring together the best creative talents from France and elsewhere to forge global partnerships in order to meet this demand,” said Réjani.

“WeMake has the same strategic vision as Federation – to invest heavily in creating original formats; selling these formats both in France and internationally, with particular focus on the US; and developing new formats in order to bring new life to the genre while becoming relevant for platforms,” added Breton, president of Federation Entertainment.

Réjani was behind local versions of shows including The Voice, One Born Every Minute and The Big Music Quiz during her seven-year stint at Shine France and prior to that worked for Fox Kids Europe and FremantleMedia, amongst other companies.
