Federation, Essential prep crime drama

French studio Federation Entertainment and Australian prodco Essential Media Group have teamed up to coproduce a crime drama series.

Aftermath (8×52′) is set in Australia in 1992 and the present day. Created by director Erin White, it is being produced by Essential Media VP of scripted Michelle Hardy.

The story follows two 40-something estranged high-school best friends as they reunite to pursue the truth surrounding the murder of their art teacher 28 years earlier.

The series is currently in “advanced development” and will be presented to the international market at C21’s Content London next week.

Last week, Essential co-founder and CEO Chris Hilton left the group following a restructure and cost-cutting measures at its Australian and New Zealand business. Greg Quail, formerly Eseential’s chief content officer, has replaced Hilton as CEO in charge of operations spanning North America and Australasia.

The company’s drama portfolio includes Rake, Jack Irish, Doctor Doctor, The Principal and Disney movie Saving Mr Banks.

Federation is led by Pascal Breton and Lionel Uza.
