Federation, Empreinte launch Bigger Boat

French production duo Federation Entertainment and Empreinte Digitale have partnered to launch a label focused on creating drama series, with its first project already lined up.

Bigger Boat will create shows for new platforms as well as traditional media and cited demand for series such as Stranger Things and The Handmaid’s Tale as the reason for the launch.

The joint label will produce a variety of French and European series across genres such as horror, fantasy, action and sci-fi.

Its first project is Marianne (8×52’), a supernatural series created by Samuel Bodin (Lazy Company) that has been co-written with Quoc Dang Tran (Kaboul Kitchen). Other projects are also on the development slate but details have been kept under wraps.

Empreinte Digitale, founded in 2003 by Raphaël Rocher and Benjamin Rocher, specialises in film, series, unscripted series, magazines, documentaries and branded content.

It was behind shows such as Lazy Company, Grown Ups and Missions for OCS in France, with the latter being aired on Shudder in the US and BBC4 in the UK.

Federation, which will sell programming from Bigger Boat internationally, was launched by Pascal Breton and was behind a number of dramas including Marseille for Netflix.
