Facebook sits down for more Red Table Talk

Jada Pinkett Smith’s Red Table Talk

Facebook has tied down Jada Pinkett Smith-fronted Red Table Talk to its Watch platform until 2022 and ordered a spin-off as it zeroes in on unscripted series at the expense of scripted.

The social media giant’s original video arm has agreed a three-year deal with host and executive producer Pinkett Smith and Westbook Studios for new episodes of the show.

It features Pinkett Smith, her daughter Willow and her mother Adrienne Banfield-Norris discussing social and cultural issues in a talkshow format and has been one of Facebook Watch’s break-out originals since launching in 2018.

Facebook Watch has also ordered spin-off Red Table Talk: The Estefans, which will be hosted by Gloria Estefan, her daughter, Emily and niece Lili.

The focus on unscripted comes after it emerged Facebook Watch had cancelled its scripted series Sorry For Your Loss, which starred Elizabeth Olsen, and Limetown, starring Jessica Biel.

The platform still has several scripted series in the pipeline, which will be released as planned, but it is set to step away from original scripted development, according to US reports.
