Ex-Nickelodeon boss launches prodco

The former president of Viacom’s kids’ and family group has launched a production and consultancy firm and revealed its first project.

Cyma Zarghami

MiMo Studio has been set up by Cyma Zarghami, who left Viacom in 2018 after 30 years with the Nickelodeon owner.

The fledgling New York-based company is focused on kids’ and family content with an eye on franchises as well as TV-length original movies that encourage family co-viewing. It will work across live-action, animation and preschool programming.

Its first project is live-action feature The Kid Who Only Hit Homers, based on the book by Matt Christopher.

Zarghami joined Nickelodeon in 1985 and was named president in 2006, overseeing its linear expansion and multi-platform programming, as well as film, live experiences and consumer products.

“MiMo Studio will be at the forefront of building a new franchise model for kids’ content in what is seeming more and more like a post-broadcast world,” said Zarghami.

“It has been very rewarding to personally select IP that will come to life in keeping with my vision to superserve kids 11 and under in a new media landscape, one that is being primarily designed for the adult audience. We are already in production on the first property and have identified five others that span live action, animation and preschool that we cannot wait to get to work on.”
