European prodcos head for Naked Beach

Magnify Media’s Naked Beach

MIPTV: Producers in Germany, the Netherlands and France have picked up the local remake rights to Channel 4’s forthcoming format Naked Beach.

The show, which premieres on the commercially funded UK pubcaster this Thursday, is being shopped here in Cannes by UK distributor and rights-management specialist Magnify Media.

Magnify has secured deals with Keshet-owned Tresor Produktions in Germany, Vincent TV Producties in the Netherlands and Flemish-speaking Belgium, and Paris-based indie Pernel Media for local remakes.

The 5×60’ UK version is being produced for C4 by Argonon-owned Barefaced TV and tests the theory of Dr Keon West of Goldsmiths University that our body image and self-esteem would improve if we saw more ‘normal’ naked bodies as opposed to media-perfect ones.

In each episode, three people check into a retreat with three confident naked hosts who will aim to make their guests feel good in their own skin through a range of activities to see if they can replicate the outcome of Dr West’s experiments.

Magnify Media has previously collaborated with with Vincent TV on a local version of NRK format Five Days Inside.

Andrea Jackson, MD of Magnify Media, said: ‘There is a crucial aspect to this show that significantly breaks new territory – it’s a makeover format that doesn’t seek to change the way we look, rather how we think about ourselves. It’s an example of how bold and intelligent development can produce brilliant entertainment to address some of the biggest social issues of our time.”
