Esquire moves online only

Esquire, the US cable network owned by NBCUniversal and Hearst Magazines, is to go online only.

The network launched in September 2013, replacing G4, but believes it can now target its younger, male audience better by becoming exclusively digital.

Series currently airing on the channel, including Brew Dogs and Best Bars in America, will make the transition to Esquire.com.

It is not clear what the impact on staffing at the channel will be, although reports in the US suggest there will be cuts.

Adam Stotsky, president of E! Entertainment and Esquire Network, said: “Men today consume content on a variety of platforms and it is essential that we follow our viewers.”

The move continues a trend set by youth-skewing BBC3 in the UK, which ended its linear offering and went online only last year.
