ESG, Huace get Younger in China

The US original version of Younger

China’s Huace Group has struck a deal with Endemol Shine Group (ESG) to remake the latter’s US drama series Younger.

Endemol Shine China will partner with Huace Group to create a 40×45’ Mandarin-language adaptation of the series, which follows the story of a woman who lies about her age to get a publishing job.

The Chinese version will be based on five seasons of the original US show, which was created by Sex & the City creator Darren Star and produced by TV Land.

William Tan, MD of Endemol Shine China, said: “Younger is a fantastic addition to Endemol Shine China’s localised scripted slate, which includes Humans and Broadchurch, and we are proud to provide high-quality content and talent which sets up the bridge between our two different cultures.”

Cecilia Zhu, VP of international business at Huace Group, added: “This is a cooperation between two top global industry players where high-profile talent will work closely together to create a fun representation of the professional and personal lives of young people in China, reflecting their views and the realities of modern life.”

It’s the second format adaption for Younger in Asia, with ESG previously taking show to Korea in a deal with JTBC Content Hub, announced in December last year.

Endemol Shine China is also adapting hit UK series Humans, from Kudos TV and AMC, with Croton Media and Matador, as well as partnering with Blue&White&Red Pictures and Cloudwood to produce a local version of fellow UK drama Broadchurch.
