Pennyworth (10×60’) is from exec producer/writer Bruno Heller (Gotham, The Mentalist, Rome) and exec producer/director Danny Cannon (Gotham, CSI). It follows the early life of Alfred Pennyworth, a former British SAS soldier who goes to work for Thomas Wayne, the Caped Crusader’s billionaire father, in 1960s London.

Like Batman, Pennyworth is part of the DC Comics universe and was created by Bob Kane with Bill Finger in the late 1930s and early 1940s. The character has been depicted on-screen by actors including Michael Caine, Jeremy Irons and Sean Pertwee.

Production on the show will begin later this year, with a series premiere slated for 2019.

“As genuine fans of these classic DC characters, as well as the incredibly talented Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon, we couldn’t be more excited to make Epix the home of this series,” said Epix president Michael Wright.

The commission follows Epix’s recent pick-up of ABC Signature Studios’ drama series Godfather of Harlem, starring and exec produced by Forest Whitaker, with Chris Brancato and Paul Eckstein (Narcos) serving as showrunners.
