Disasters at Sea (working title) is being produced by Exploration Production Inc (EPI), the in-house prodco of Discovery Canada, which is itself a joint-venture between Bell Media in Canada and Discovery Communications.

The 6×60′ series, which has been labelled as “the biggest and most comprehensive partnership of its kind for an EPI production,” explores the most mysterious and unexpected marine disasters in recent history.

Each episode recreates the disastrous events through CGI and first-hand accounts, exploring whether long-held opinions on why the accidents occurred stand true. International rights are managed exclusively by Exploration Distribution Inc.

“Disasters at Sea continues Discovery’s proud tradition of creating compelling, insightful storytelling with an investigative approach,” said Edwina Follows, director of commissioning and production at Discovery Networks.

EPI is best known for its Mighty series of programming, which includes Mighty Ships and Mighty Planes, the latter of which was picked up by Seven.
