eOne to practise Family Law

Transatlantic producer and distributor Entertainment One (eOne) has picked up the international distribution rights to new drama series Family Law from Canadian network Global TV.

Jordy Randall

Set in Vancouver, the show follows a lawyer and recovering alcoholic as she struggles to put her career and family back together after hitting rock bottom.

As a condition of her probation, the lawyer is forced to work at her estranged father’s firm, practicing in family law for the first time while forging new relationships with the half-brother and half-sister she’s never met. The result is a dysfunctional family law firm operating to help other families with their own dysfunctions.

The series is produced by Calgary-based Seven4 Films and Lark Productions for Global Television, with Susin Nielsen serving as showrunner, while Seven24’s Tom Cox and Jordy Randall executive produce alongside Lark’s Erin Haskett.

eOne will handle distribution for the series outside of Canada. Casting for the series is currently underway.

Randall said: “In this moment in time, when audiences need an antidote to the nightly news, Family Law will provide an emotionally engaging escape, with compelling characters and the right balance of heart and humour. We look forward to eOne introducing it to the global marketplace.”

The deal was brokered by Noel Hedges, eOne’s executive VP of acquisitions and international distribution.
