C21’s second Drama Series Script Competition, produced in association with leading independent studio Entertainment One (eOne), has opened for entries in a bid to find the next big thing in international drama.

Full information, guidelines and the online entry form can be found by clicking here.

We’re looking for outstanding pilots for a one-hour drama series from fresh writers who have what it takes to create a primetime drama series.

Winners will receive US$10,000 development funding, time in a writers room on a current series and assistance in taking their drama project to series, with unprecedented access to the global television drama market.

The C21 Drama Series Script Competition is open for entries between August 1 and October 13 this year. The final round of the script competition will consist of a pitch presentation at the C21 International Drama Summit in December.

C21 editor-in-chief and MD David Jenkinson said: “Last year’s competition was a remarkable success, with more than 220 scripts submitted. Two shows are currently in development from that initiative. This year we have added a mentor stage, which will see a leading drama executive work with each of six finalists to get them ready to pitch their script at the Drama Summit. New talent is around every corner, and the Script Competition is a great way of connecting new writers with the global drama business.”

Carrie Stein, executive VP of global production at eOne Television, said: “Finding and nurturing new talent is so important in the current television landscape, as they will be the visionaries of our future hit TV series. We are delighted to be partnering once again with C21 on the Drama Series Script Competition in hopes of finding that great new voice!”

Last year the writers behind two winning scripts, 123 Kings Road and The Ladder, shared the prize and have been developing their projects with eOne.

Lucy Wadham and Rosie Miles, writers of 123 King’s Road said: “The best part of entering the C21 competition was that it lit a fire under us to write a script that wasn’t necessarily trying to please anyone. It felt like a wild and wonderful punt. The boost it gave to our confidence as scriptwriters and the experience of developing our script with a gifted and experienced producer inside a company that has real clout has been amazing.”

Frazer Flintham, writer of The Ladder, had this to say about the competition: “The C21 prize has given me such an insight into the TV development process, and the support and guidance I’ve received from eOne in developing my script has been invaluable. To get to spend a week in the writers room on an eOne show was just incredible. There are few writing prizes out there that offer such genuine opportunities.”
