Endemol senses motion with Total Wipeout

Endemol Games UK is using the latest high-tech motion sensor software for what it called a “ground-breaking” Facebook game based on its Total Wipeout TV format.

Total Wipeout: Big Ball Run follows in the virtual footsteps of Xbox’s Kinect by turning the player’s body into a controller. Using software from OmniMotion Technology (OMT), players in the online game are presented with virtual obstacles they must avoid, similar to Endemol’s Total Wipeout gameshow.

Jurian van der Meer, MD for Endemol Games, said the game would be “truly accessible” as all players need is a standard computer, webcam and their own bodies.

The game will be available to play through Facebook from this month or as a downloadable app. Each user is given three free attempts at the obstacles in 24 hours and additional attempts can bought via the network’s virtual currency, Facebook Credits.

While initially launching the game in the UK, Endemol is looking to roll it out internationally, with Wipeout having been produced for 28 territories including the US, Russia, Argentina, Australia and the Middle East.

Previously, Endemol UK has produced a range of popular betting games based on formats such as The Million Pound Drop, Big Brother and Deal or No Deal as well as a pub quiz game based on the latter.
