EMC/C21 to award $18,000 joint scholarship

The Entertainment Master Class (EMC), the ‘format academy’ for TV entertainment, and C21Media are to award a joint scholarship for the 2010 EMC programme, which starts this May in Berlin, Germany.

The scholarship, worth €13,500 (US$18,400), will be announced on Monday night, April 12 at MIPTV in Cannes, France. It will be awarded to a candidate whose professional achievements and objectives are deemed by the EMC and C21Media to demonstrate an exceptional commitment to a career in entertainment television.

“The EMC/C21Media selection committee will be looking for a candidate who has the potential and the determination to move entertainment to the next level,” said Roland Willaert, CEO of the Entertainment Master Class. “The successful candidate must have a proven track record, be respected by their peers, and be able to set and achieve their own goals.”

David Jenkinson, editor-in-chief and managing director of C21Media, added: “We are very excited to be part of this initiative, which reflects the very best standards in the international entertainment business. In a world of increasing consolidation, megabrands and big business, it’s important to remember that creativity happens at a personal level, and should be recognised and rewarded.”

A stellar cast of creative and commercial players have given their time and expertise to the executive education programme, which is now in its third year. Among the EMC’s 70 or so mentors and guest speakers are Eyeworks’ CEO Paul Jackson, reality pioneer Peter Bazalgette, Deal Or No Deal devisor Dick de Rijk, Fox Reality chief David Lyle, BAFTA-winning director Geoff Posner, veteran producer Alan Boyd, All3Media’s creative director David Liddiment and German comedy star Anke Engelke.

Willaert said: “The EMC offers its participants a unique and transformative opportunity — the chance to learn about their business from some of the most powerful names in entertainment.”

Those interested in applying for the EMC/C21 scholarship should send their CVs no later than April 11, 2010 to: [email protected].
