Meter exec rides off with Elk

Elk Entertainment, the Swedish format development outfit launched last year, has hired the former CEO of Metronome-owned production company Meter.

Anna Rydin joins Stockholm-based Elk as partner and the head of a new business division. The appointment allows the company to launch a production arm, Elk Production, with Rydin as MD.

The plan is for Elk to become “a new quality supplier of ideas, formats and local television production,” said Rydin, who left Meter in 2012.

The new division will look to produce local versions of formats developed by the team who launched Elk: former Friday TV trio Estelle Bodén, Jock Millgårdh and Mattias Olsson.

The other half of Elk will now be titled Elk Format and will focus on development and distribution, with Bodén as MD. “Being one of the few independent players in the market, with a focus on format development and a strong production team in place, feels good,” said Bodén.

Elk was created after Bodén, Millgårdh and Olsson sold Friday, the format development company they launched in 2005, to News Corp-backed Shine Group. Their credits include Minute to Win It, Single Moms, The Bar, Clash of the Choirs and The Farm.

Last year, Elk inked an output deal with Banijay International to launch new shows across Scandinavia. The prodco will work exclusively with Banijay Group’s Scandi prodco Nordisk FilmTV on new formats.
