El Rey pins down Burnett format

US Hispanic cable channel El Rey Network has greenlit a second season of its show about Lucha Libre wrestling from The Bible producer Mark Burnett.

Lucha Underground will return to production in the Boyle Heights neighbourhood of LA later this year and will premiere in early 2016.

The professional wrestling series is produced by United Artists Media Group in association with FactoryMade Ventures and AG Studios for El Rey Network.

It aims to introduce US audiences to the high-flying aerial manoeuvres, slingshot moves, dramatic masks and distinctive wrestling techniques of Lucha Libre, one of Mexico’s most popular sports.
