Einstein sets mind to digital role

NEM: Antenna Group’s Serbian chief Peter Einstein is moving to a new role at the European broadcaster that will see him scout digital opportunities in the US and UK.

Einstein was appointed MD of Antenna Serbia last year after leaving Middle Eastern media group Rotana, where he had been deputy CEO since September 2012.

The former Showtime Arabia CEO and MTV Networks Europe president has now been named as Antenna’s head of new ventures as the company looks to expand its digital presence, C21 has learned.

Einstein will continue to be based at Antenna’s Belgrade office but will travel to the US and UK as part of his job.

He will be replaced by Manja Grcic, who was in charge of the Greece-based broadcaster’s political relations.

Antenna’s operations span Europe, North America and Australia, with offices in Amsterdam, Lon-don, Athens and New York, and the company distributes content in more than 20 countries. It is privately owned by the Kyriakou family.

A Viacom veteran with 25 years’ experience, Einstein used to run MTV Networks Europe as presi-dent and business director before launching Showtime Arabia in 1996.

In 2006, he left Showtime after 10 years to “pursue other interests” before leading the investment that completed funding for Ginx.

Last year, former NBCUniversal International president and Cineflix Studios MD Pete Smith resurfaced as MD of Antenna.

Earlier this year, the future of the in-house production arm at Atenna Group was thrown into doubt when the broadcaster parted company with the prodco’s MD less than a year after its launch.
