Dynamo to work magic on Sky

ETV: Comcast-owned European satcaster Sky has commissioned an original three-part special in the UK featuring award-winning magician Dynamo.

After five years off TV due to an illness, Dynamo (real name Steven Frayne) will return to screens next year with Project 7 (working title) for Sky1 and streaming service Now TV.

The show will see the magician perform “close-up miracles, impossible predictions and unbelievable feats of magic” across the globe, Sky announced at the Edinburgh Television Festival (ETF) on Thursday.

Coproduced by Phil McIntyre Television, Inner Circle Films and Motion Content Group, the series will premiere in the UK and Ireland in 2020. Exec producing are Lucy Ansbro for Phil McIntyre Television, Dan Albion for Inner Circle Films and Abigail Adams for Motion Content Group.

“Dynamo has carved out an illustrious reputation in the world of magic and his skill and mastery is going to astound our viewers,” said Phil Edgar-Jones, director of Sky Arts and Sky’s head of entertainment, in a statement.

Speaking at ETV, Edgar-Jones added: “This is kind of [Dynamo’s] comeback. The show is talking about what’s true and what’s fake. There’s a really interesting narrative arc through the show that speaks into that.”

In related news, Sky has ordered a second season original comedy drama Brassic, whose first run was launched today. Co-created by Danny Brocklehurst and Joe Gilgun, who also stars, season one of Brassic has been made available in its entirety Now TV and will also air on Sky1.

Season two will see new faces join the cast including John Thomson (Cold Feet) and Bill Paterson (Fleabag). It is produced by Calamity Films with David Livingstone and Jon Mountague exec producing.
