Dutch get ready to Dance on Ice

The UK version of Dancing on Ice

Dutch commercial network SBS6 has commissioned a local version of ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVSGE) format Dancing on Ice.

The show, which starts on December 7 and will be hosted by Winston Gerschtanowitz, is produced by Talpa Productions.

Dancing on Ice returned in the UK in 2017 and a new season will air on commercial network ITV in 2020. It was subsequently commissioned by Sat.1 in Germany, where it will also return for a new season next month.

A Dutch/Belgian version of the show previously aired on RTL4 in the Netherlands and VTM in Belgium, hosted by Martijn Krabbe and Francesca Vanthiele.

Pascal Dalton, VP of global format sales for ITVSGE, said: “Dancing on Ice has successfully returned in both the UK and Germany, so we are excited to see it coming back on Dutch screens on SBS6. It remains a key returning format for us and has been commissioned in 18 territories to date, so we know it is popular with audiences across the globe.”

The format sees celebrities paired with professional ice skaters to perform dance routines in front of an expert judging panel. It has aired for 11 seasons in the UK since its premiere in 2006, though the show went on hiatus between 2014 and 2018.
