Hoffman Meyer, who oversees the acquisition, commission and coproduction of docs, will leave on October 1, although she will remain as consultant on projects that have already been commissioned through to their completion.

She joined the broadcaster from rival TV2 in 2007 and has since been responsible for documentary purchases across all DR channels and the development of docs primarily for DR2.

Projects she oversaw during her time at the channel include Democrats, India’s Daughters and My Childhood in Hell.

She is leaving after nine years with the channel to focus on writing and also to devote more time to the Why Foundation, which aims to provide thought-provoking journalism and human interests stories and previously spawned the Why Poverty strand of documentaries.

Hoffman Meyer said: “The Why campaign has helped to breathe life into a global debate on inequality, poverty and the latest women’s rights. The most important thing for me now has been that the films are used for educational purposes in many parts of the world and have set the agenda far beyond the borders of Europe.

“I’ve always had the objective that the film I involve myself in has to make a difference and make us stop and think, to see the world in a different light or from a new angle.”
