Distribution Access buys Canamedia

Distribution Access, a Canadian company specialising in educational videos, has acquired factual-focused local indie Canamedia for an undisclosed sum.

Canamedia co-founder and president Les Harris will join the Distribution Access board and take a senior producer role, overseeing production activities for the enlarged company.

“This acquisition provides Distribution Access with significant new content for our digital applications, along with a solid foundation for growing our global broadcast distribution division,” said Distribution Access president Doug Connolly.

Harris added: “Combining the activities and talent of these two organisations will position us to serve the growing demand for digital programming on a wide variety of platforms, while focusing production efforts toward the needs of specialty and niche programme providers.

“Producers and clients of Canamedia will receive the benefit of a stronger and better positioned company as we move forward together.”

Canamedia was founded in 1979 by Les and Jane Harris and now has a catalogue of more than 1,500 titles. Distribution Accesses has a library of more than 15,000 titles, and serves some 16,000 Canadian educational institutions, including libraries and schools.
