Disney stages High School Musical spin-off

Cameras are rolling on telemovie Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure, which Emmy-winning director Michael Lembeck is helming as Disney Channel’s latest spin-off from High School Musical.

Ashley Tisdale will reprise her role as High School Musical’s scene-stealing drama queen Sharpay Evans. The cast will also include Austin Butler (Life Unexpected), Bradley Steven Perry (Good Luck Charlie), Cameron Goodman (Phineas & Ferb), Alec Mapa (Ugly Betty) and Jack Plotnick (The Mentalist).

The story involves a New York casting director who spots Evans performing with her dog at a charity gala and offers to audition her for a new Broadway musical. The film will also feature original songs by Randy Petersen and Kevin Quinn (I’m Gonna Shine), Matthew Tishler and Amy Powers (My Boy & Me), David Lawrence and Faye Greenberg (New York’s Best Kept Secret).

Tisdale and High School Musical duo Barry Rosenbush and Bill Borden are executive producing the movie, which was written by Robert Horn (13, Designing Women).
