Disney+ sets date for eight Euro launches

The Mandalorian is among Disney+’s 26 original series

The Walt Disney Company (TWDC)’s direct-to-consumer and international unit has revealed the date it will launch Disney+ in eight more European countries.

The SVoD service will launch in Portugal, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Belgium and Luxembourg on September 15.

Its prices range from NOK69 (US$7.24) per month in Norway to DKK59 (US$8.94) per month in Denmark.

In Portugal, Belgium, Finland, Iceland and Luxembourg it will cost €6.99 (US$7.89) per month, while in Sweden it will cost SEK69 (US$7.41).

The service is currently available in more than a dozen countries and has been well received following launches in markets such as the US, Canada, Australia, France, the UK and India.

Last month, figures released byTWDC showed it has 54.5 million paid subscribers globally.

The service offers 26 original series, such as Star Wars spin-off The Mandalorian, alongside library content from brands such as Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic.

TWDC has set a target of reaching between 60 million and 90 million subscribers and achieving profitability in the fiscal year 2024, but some analysts have predicted it could reach 130 million in five years. In comparison, market leader Netflix has around 160 million subscribers.
