Disney+ rehearses High School Musical series

The cast of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series

The Walt Disney Company has revealed more details of the forthcoming High School Musical reboot for its streaming service Disney+.

Production has begun in Salt Lake City, Utah, on High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, a 10-episode series that picks up nearly 15 years after the original movie aired.

The show follows a group of students as they count down to the opening night of their school’s first production of High School Musical.

Joining previously announced cast member Joshua Bassett are Olivia Rodrigo, Kate Reinders, Sofia Wylie, Matt Cornett, Dara Renee, Julia Lester, Frankie Rodriguez, Larry Saperstein and Mark St Cyr.

The series is developed and executive produced by Tim Federle (Ferdinand) alongside showrunner and executive producer Oliver Goldstick (Pretty Little Liars).

Bill Borden and Barry Rosenbush of the original High School Musical trilogy are also executive producers. Film, TV and music video director Tamra Davis (Empire) is directing the first three episodes. The choreographer is Zach Woodlee (Glee).

“From the music and dance, to the characters and hilarious meta references, there is something here for fans of the originals, as well as people who are new to East High,” said Agnes Chu, senior VP of content, Disney+.

Launching in late 2019, Disney+ will feature movies and shows from Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars, alongside original feature-length films, documentaries, live-action and animated series and shortform content.
