Disney ‘pulling out’ of Fusion

The Walt Disney Company is reportedly in talks to leave Fusion, its US joint venture with Univision.

Both companies are trying to find a way for Disney to exit by the end of 2015, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Fusion, which launched in October 2013, targets English-speaking and Hispanic audiences aged 18 to 34 with a mixture of 24/7 news, comedy and lifestyle shows. It is a joint venture between Hispanic broadcaster Univision and Disney-owned US broadcast network ABC.

The Miami-based network, headed by chief executive Isaac Lee, was Univision’s first push into English-language programming.

It aimed to use affiliate fees from the cable network to fund its growth, allowing it to rival companies like Vice by attracting millennials.
