Disney has ordered a live-action series based on the Star Wars film franchise to be written and exec produced by Jon Favreau.

The show will be created for Disney’s forthcoming direct-to-consumer streaming platform, with the title and release date yet to be confirmed. The news was announced by Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, which will produce the series.

Favreau has directed hit Hollywood movies including Iron Man, Iron Man 2 and Disney’s The Jungle Book. He also served as executive producer on the Avengers films.

His association with the Star Wars brand began when he voiced a character in animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars in 2008, while he will also appear as an actor in this year’s live-action movie Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Last year, Disney announced it would be launching its own streaming service and pulling its content from global SVoD giant Netflix. The platform is due to launch next year, and the Star Wars series will be a staple of its offering.
