Disney Germany channels chief exits

The head of Disney’s German TV channels, Thorsten Braun, has unexpectedly left the company.

Thorsten Braun

Braun, VP and general manager of Disney Channels and Disney Media Sales and Partnerships, has stepped down from the post after just two years.

Disney revealed that Braun resigned due to personal reasons. The company has yet to name his replacement.

Braun’s exit came as a surprise to industry watchers. He had been expected to attend this week’s Screenforce Days TV conference in Cologne, according to media news site kress.de.

Braun oversaw free TV network Disney Channel and the group’s pay TV operations in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. It remains unclear to what extent Disney will restructure its TV activities in the region in view of the expected launch of the new Disney+ paid streaming service in western Europe later this year or in early 2020.

Braun began at Disney in 2013 as VP and general manager of Disney Media Sales and Partnerships. Prior to that he held several positions at Viacom in Berlin, latterly as VP of sales. He was also a commercial director at NBCUniversal.
