Corus Entertainment has launched the Disney Channel in Canada for the first time following its licensing agreement with the Mouse House.

Corus Entertainment struck a long-term deal with the Disney/ABC Television Group in April this year after DHX Media’s acquisition of the kids’ cable networks Family Channel, Disney XD and Disney Junior.

The three channels have now been rebranded by DHX, but the launch of the English- and French-language Disney-branded channels yesterday ensures the Mouse House still has a presence in Canada.

Disney Channel will be available in 10 million households in Canada by September 3, according to Corus, following carriage deals with partners such as Bell Aliant, Rogers and Shaw.

Current Disney programming included in the launch line-up includes KC Undercover, Jessie, Girl Meets World and Austin & Ally.

Following this launch, select Disney-branded kids’ linear television channels will also be rolled out in the future as these brands and programming are transitioned to Corus.

In the meantime, Disney Junior programming will air on Disney Channel in the mornings, while Saturday evenings will feature Disney XD series such as Gravity Falls.
