Discovery ups Aalbu

Discovery Networks in Norway, owner of TV Norge, Max and Eurosport Norway, has promoted Jan-Erik Aalbu to sporting director.

Aalbu, previously chief editor, now joins Discovery’s management team and reports to Harald Stromme, editor and CEO of Discovery Networks Norway.

The exec joined the company in January 2011 as a football commentator and took over from Eskil Andreassen as sports director in May 2012.

Aalbu previously worked as director of sports in Vålerenga and sports director at the Norwegian Golf Federation.

Discovery recently secured the rights to broadcast Norwegian league football for six years from 2017. In addition, the US media group secured Olympic Games rights across Europe from 2018.
