Discovery turns Border Live

Discovery Channel in the US has ordered a live series set on the country’s border with Mexico from the producers behind A&E’s factual show 60 Days In.

Border Live is a six-parter that will follow law enforcement on the US-Mexico border and others who live and work along its remote stretches.

The show will broadcast live from a New York-based studio from December 5 between 21.00 and 23.00ET/PT, with each episode tracking events on the border. Investigative journalist Lilia Luciano will also interview a range of people who live and work along the partition.

The show is being produced by Lucky 8, with Greg Henry, Kim Woodard, Isaac Holub, George Kralovansky, Ashley Adams, Anne Marie Gaynor and Andres Vasquez among the executive producers.

For Discovery Channel, Joseph Schneier, Joseph Boyle and Christina Bavetta are executive producers, while Cameron Doyle is coordinating producer.

“The US-Mexico border has been the focus of our national dialogue over the last several years,” said Nancy Daniels, chief brand officer at Discovery & Factual. “Our goal with this project is to shine a light on epic stories through immersive experiences, and we will turn that lens on one of the biggest and most important stories of our time.”

Live law enforcement shows have become increasingly popular over recent months following the success of A&E docuseries Live PD, which was extended by the US cablenet earlier this year. The show, which is from US prodco Big Fish Entertainment, debuted in 2016.
