Discovery shuffles Eurosport team

Discovery Communications has revamped the senior management team of its sportscaster Eurosport.

Arnaud Simon, previously MD at Eurosport France and director of TV content, has been promoted to the newly created role of senior VP of content and production for the Eurosport Group. He will oversee content across Eurosport’s territories and ensure consistency of programming quality.

Meanwhile, Julien Bergeaud, previously Eurosport development director, has been promoted to senior VP and country manager for France and sports rights Southern Europe. He will lead Eurosport and Discovery France’s channel management, commercial development and communication and will co-ordinate sports rights across Southern Europe.

Bergeaud, who reports to Marinella Soldi, president and MD of Discovery Networks Southern Europe, joined Eurosport in 1999 and fills the position formerly held by Nicolas Bonard, who will now focus exclusively on growing Discovery’s Studios Group business.

Elsewhere, Laurent Prud’Homme, who previously worked across football rights in Singapore, becomes senior VP of rights acquisitions and syndication, with a remit to develop both local and multi-territory rights acquisition.

Jonathan Davies is leaving CNN to join as MD of advertiser partnerships and will be responsible for maximising the commercial value of the Eurosport and Discovery channel portfolio.

Peter Hutton, who was appointed CEO at Eurosport in January, said the appointments were “a strengthening of Eurosport’s leadership team that will transform our business and drive world-class standards in sports programming, production, promotion and platforms.”

Discovery took a controlling interest in Eurosport last year, increasing its stake from 20% to 51% through a deal with France’s TF1 Group.
