Discovery finds Amazon exec for DTC

US factual giant Discovery has appointed an Amazon exec to oversee the company’s global digital and direct-to-consumer businesses.

Peter Faricy has been named Discovery’s first CEO of global direct-to-consumer. He will lead Discovery’s Go TV Everywhere products, as well Motor Trend, Eurosport Player, Discovery Kids, Dplay and Discovery’s strategic alliance with the PGA Tour.

At Amazon, Faricy led the growth of the Amazon Marketplace, the company’s third-party seller business. Prior to that, he oversaw its music and movies categories. He has also held leadership roles at Borders Group, Ford and McKinsey.

Faricy will report to Discovery president and CEO David Zaslav. JB Perrette, president and CEO of Discovery Networks International, will continue to lead the overall Eurosport business and will work with Faricy on direct-to-consumer products across international markets.

Faricy will start work on September 17.
