Discovery channels join FuboTV

Fubo launched in the US four years ago focusing on sport

Discovery has struck a deal with US-based live streamer FuboTV that will bring 13 of the factual giant’s channels to the service.

Discovery Channel, TLC, Investigation Discovery, Animal Planet and OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network are among those that will join the Fubo line-up.

The agreement builds on a previous arrangement between Fubo and Scripps Networks Interactive, which was among the companies that invested in the streamer and was  acquired by Discovery last year.

Scripps’ HGTV, Food Network and Travel Channel already feature on Fubo and the addition of the Discovery nets deepens the relationship. In addition to live channels, Discovery will also bring more than 60,000 on-demand movies and TV episodes per month.

Subscription-based Fubo started out in the US four years ago with a focus on sport but has since expanded to Europe and broadened its content offering. The firm has raised US$150m in funding to date, with backers also including 21st Century Fox, AMC Networks and Sky.

“Our partners at FuboTV are building a unique programming service, and we are pleased to bring more of our portfolio of real-life passion brands and programmes to their subscribers,” said Eric Phillips, Discovery’s president of affiliate distribution.
