Discovery, Quebecor pre-buy Escobar doc

Tata – Escobar’s Widow uses previously unseen footage and photos

Discovery and French-Canadian channel operator Quebecor have picked up a two-part documentary on Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar from London-based production finance and distribution company Drive.

Discovery has taken Tata – Escobar’s Widow for its channels in Latin America, Iberia, Italy and Spanish-speaking US. Quebecor, meanwhile, has picked up the doc for its SVoD service Club Ilico.

Tata – Escobar’s Widow features revelations from Escobar’s wife as well as never-seen-before family footage.

Drive will launch the 2×60’ project, from Canada’s Telegramme Media with collaboration from Escobar’s son Juan Pablo, to international buyers at MipTV next month

It features interviews with Victoria Eugenia Henao, who was nicknamed Tata by Escobar, as she breaks her silence of 25 years and reveals the truth about her life with the world’s most infamous drug trafficker.

Using material from the very beginning of their relationship as well as lost photos, the series is said to portray Escobar’s controversial life through the eyes of the person closest to him.
