Discop Abidjan was set to take place in the Ivory Coast city in May, while Discop Johannesburg, in South Africa, was booked for June but they have both now been put back until later in the year.

The Abidjan event is now due to take place on September 3 and 4 while the Johannesburg meet has been rescheduled for October 28 and 29.

Both will return to their usual dates in May and July for 2021, organisers said today.

Discop president Patrick Zuchowicki Jucaud said: “We were more optimistic three weeks ago but the safety of our clients and staff is our priority. The last part of the year will be busy, and we believe these new dates will provide the Discop community with the opportunity to achieve their business objectives in Africa.”

The latest figures show coronavirus is affecting 2,819 people in 46 African countries, with 73 recorded deaths.

The coronavirus crisis which has gripped the world has decimated television’s busy events circuit with a slew of annual meets postponed or cancelled altogether.

MipTV in Cannes, SXSW in Austin, Series Mania in Lille and Hot Docs in Toronto are among the high-profile events to have cancelled so far.
