Digital Circus blurs TV, video game IP

Former Discovery Channel boss Clark Bunting and video game veteran David Wheeler’s fledgling prodco Digital Circus Media has teamed with producer Stephen Ellis on a sci-fi series and game.

Blur is being produced as both a TV series and a multi-platform video game, based on a fully developed novel, original scripts and game design by Wheeler.

The stories follow a flawed human trafficking detective, dangerously obsessed with an elusive witness in a dark, futuristic wonderland.

Bunting and Wheeler set up Digital Circus Media last year, based in Michigan and LA. Ellis, who previously headed up Canadian producer/distributor Ellis Entertainment, specialises in bringing together partnerships to benefit from Canadian media funding, interactive production and content creation.

“The time is right for storytelling that co-exists in the multi-screen environment across both the television and game worlds,” said Wheeler.

Bunting, who retired from Discovery in 2011, was behind the development of Shark Week for Discovery, while Wheeler, who has produced, written and directed for TV and film, has extensive knowledge in the digital world.

He worked as senior creative director for Electronic Arts and as content director for Vivendi (Activision/Blizzard), and has credits on video games including Medal of Honor.
