DIC secures six-year German deal

US-based animator DIC Entertainment, the outfit behind Super Duper Sumos and Evolution, has inked a six-year deal for terrestrial and l&m rights for its animated series Madeline with Germany's Super RTL.

Based on Ludwig Bemelman's classic books, the half-hour series stars a clever and mischievous little redheaded girl and the English-language version is narrated in rhyme by British actor Christopher Plummer. The German network also acquired DIC's Incredible Movie Toons package as well as Sabrina's Secret Life.

As well as signing the deals with Super RTL, DIC has had a busy time since Mipcom: Disney Channel picked up Incredible Movie Toons as did YTV (Canada), Cartoon Network (Japan), Televisa (Mexico) and RCTV (Venezuela).

Sabrina's Secret Life also sold to Televisa, Fox Kids (Italy), Noga (Israel) and Saran (Turkey), while Noga also picked up Super Duper Sumos, as did ICTV (Ukraine), Flimlux (Netherlands), Globo (Brazil) and PT Cipta Televisi (Indonesia). Cartoon Network Latin America took new episodes of Speed Racer.

DIC also concluded a series of home video deals, with Eagle Pictures (Italy) for Incredible Movie Toons and Evolution; with TF1 Video (France) for Totally Sabrina; with Metrodome (UK) for Super Duper Sumos and Fremantle (UK) for Sabrina.
