DHX’s animated Polly Pocket goes global

Polly Pocket is based on Mattel’s toy range

MIPCOM: Canadian kids’ content producer and distributor DHX Media has signed a raft of broadcast deals for its latest animated series, Polly Pocket.

Sixteen broadcasters have so far acquired the 26×22’ series in a mix of national and pan-regional deals.

National deals include Sony Pictures Television’s POP channel in the UK; RTL Telekids in the Netherlands; vtmkzoom in Belgium; teleTOON+ Poland; Canal Panda in Portugal; Lagardère’s Gulli and TiJi in France; Gulli Girl in Russia; Star Channel in Greece; kidZ in Israel; and SABC in South Africa.

Pan-regional deals cover Gulli Africa, covering 22 French-speaking countries; AMC Minimax for Eastern Europe; Kidzone TV for the Baltics; Turner for Italy, the Middle East, Turkey and Greece; and Discovery Kids in Latin America.

The series premiered in Canada on DHX Media’s Family Channel and Family Jr this July, and begins its global roll-out from late 2018.

The series is based on toy maker Mattel’s Polly Pocket toy range, which was relaunched earlier this year. The figures were highly popular in the 1990s, selling more than 10 million units. The relaunch includes updated characters and the animated series.

The latest Polly Pocket series forms part of a co-development, production, distribution and licensing partnership between DHX Media and Mattel around original content based on the latter’s properties. These also include animated series Bob the Builder, Fireman Sam and Little People.
