DHX to launch SVoD service

Slugterra will be among the shows available via Kids Room

Canada-based kids’ content company DHX Media is launching its own subscription VoD service, with hundreds of episodes of its programming to be made available ad-free in the US.

Kids Room will initially be available via Comcast’s OTT service Xfinity X1 from this summer and will draw on programming exclusively from DHX Media’s vast library of children’s and family content.

X1 customers across the US will be able to subscribe to and access the service for US$4.99 per month by saying ‘Kids Room’ into their X1 voice remote or by finding it within the ‘networks’ section of Xfinity On Demand. It will also be available on Xfinity Flex to Comcast’s internet-only customers.

Titles set to be made available on the service include Bob the Builder, Fireman Sam, In the Night Garden, Teletubbies, Polly Pocket and Strawberry Shortcake.

It will also feature shows for older kids, such as Slugterra, Kid vs. Kat, Chuck’s Choice, Endangered Species, Storm Hawks, Sabrina: The Animated Series and Angela Anaconda. More series will follow in the months ahead, DHX said.

“As one of the world’s leading producers and owners of children’s content, we see Kids Room as a natural touchpoint to entertain kids with great programming in the expanding landscape of streaming opportunities,” said Joe Tedesco, executive VP and general manager at DHX Television.

The firm was formed in 2006 through the merger of Decode Entertainment and Halifax Film Company and has since become one of the world’s largest producers and distributors of children’s shows. It also operates Canadian networks Family Channel, Family CHRGD, Family Jr and Télémagino.
