Deutschland 83 scoops Int’l Emmy

Deutschland 83

UFA Fiction and RTL Television’s Deutschland 83 was named best drama

German Cold War thriller Deutschland 83 won the best drama award at the 44th International Emmys in New York last night.

The show, from FremantleMedia-owned UFA Fiction and RTL Television, beat off competition from Canada’s 19-2 (season two), Argentina’s La Casa Del Mar and United Arab Emirates’ Waiting for Jasmin.

The sequel to Deutschland 83, titled Deutschland 86, will premiere exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in Germany in 2018.

German and UK programmes led the way with three Emmys each.

The TV Movie/Mini-Series award was won by Kudos and BBC1 drama Capital, while Dustin Hoffman took home the gong for Best Performance by an Actor for Roald Dahl’s Esio Trot, which hails from Endor Productions/Red Arrow International and The Weinstein Company.

Meanwhile, Hoff The Record, from Me & You Productions in the UK, scooped the comedy award.

Japan’s The Man Who Shot Hiroshima won the award for best arts programme.

The International Emmy Founders Award went to Shonda Rhimes, writer, executive producer and creator behind series including Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, Private Practice, How to Get Away with Murder and The Catch.
