Denmark’s TV2 flips film for sport

Danish broadcaster TV2 has revealed it will launch a new sports-focused network to replace its Film channel, which is set to close after nine years.

TV2 Film will be converted to a dedicated sports channel from next year, focusing on Danish sports and providing more in-depth coverage of events.

The broadcaster’s flagship channel will continue to air major sporting events but TV2 Sport will offer extended rugby and football coverage, as well as action from the Danish handball and ice hockey leagues.

TV2’s CEO, Merete Eldrup, said the new network would be an additional offer for dedicated fans and allow the broadcaster to leverage its existing sporting rights more effectively.
