DeGeneres signs with HBO Max

WarnerMedia’s HBO Max has signed a deal with talkshow host Ellen DeGeneres to create three original series and a US version of a UK format for the forthcoming SVoD service.

HBO Max has signed Ellen DeGeneres to a major deal

The straight-to-series content included in the deal are: Ellen’s Home Design Challenge, First Dates Hotel, and Little Ellen, while docu-series Finding Einstein is in development.

Ellen’s Home Design Challenge will feature eight competing designers, with DeGeneres on hand to weigh in on each challenge. It is produced by Warner Bros Unscripted & Alternative Television and A Smith & Co Productions in association with Telepictures and A Very Good Production. DeGeneres, Jeff Kleeman and Arthur Smith serve as exec producers.

Little Ellen (40×15’) is a 2D animated children’s show that explores the world through the eyes of a seven-year-old DeGeneres. Based in her hometown of New Orleans, the series is produced by Warner Bros Animation and Ellen Digital Ventures. DeGeneres, Kevin A Leman II and Sam Register are exec producers. Jennifer Skelly is a co-exec producer and Jason Blackman is a producer.

First Dates Hotel is based on the UK format devised by Twenty Twenty Productions. The dating series is set at an affluent boutique hotel and features single people from multiple generations gathering for an intensive and tailor-made romantic experience. It is produced by Warner Bros Unscripted & Alternative Television in association with Shed Media, A Very Good Production and Twenty Twenty Productions Limited. DeGeneres, Kleeman, Pam Healey, and Dan Peirson are exec producers on that project.

The original UK Channel 4 versions of First Dates and First Dates Hotel will also be available on HBO Max.

Finding Einstein, meanwhile, is an original docu-series seeking to find a new generation of geniuses who are motivated to change the world for the better.

WarnerMedia’s streaming platform is set to launch in spring 2020, with the company starting to bolster its catalogue of content in preparation for its debut.

Earlier this month, HBO Max secured rights for all 12 seasons of the Warner Bros-produced CBS hit comedy The Big Bang Theory.
