De Mensen returns sales and copro chief

Newen-owned Belgian prodoc De Mensen has brought the founder of its scripted department back to the company to lead international sales and coproductions.

Marijke Wouters, who established the company’s scripted team in 2014 and executive produced series including Spitsbroers (Brothers United) and Hotel Beau Séjour, is making a return.

Wouters left De Mensen in 2017 to establish Pine Agency, a talent agency for Belgian actors, directors and top athletes. With the agency now established she will return to assist in the company’s international expansion.

Showrunner Nico Moolenaar is also extending his stay with the firm.

Moolenaar became well-known as writer and showrunner of the international hit series Missing Persons Unit, and afterwards developed Netflix and VRT series Undercover.

De Mensen has signed a new agreement with him to create the follow-up seasons of Undercover, among other projects.

Together with head of scripted Pieter Van Huyck and executive producer Ivy Vanhaecke, Moolenaar and Wouters will work on season two and three of Undercover and season two of the award-winning Beau Séjour (VRT, Arte, NPO, Netflix).

De Mensen heist series The Bank Hacker is part of the Red Arrow Studios International catalogue at Mipcom which gets underway in Cannes on Monday.

TF1-owned French producer distributor Newen Group acquired a majority stake in De Mensen in February.
