Davenport’s Moon & Me set for China

The kids and family division of US firm Bento Box Entertainment has partnered with Chinese company UYoung to bring its flagship preschool property from the co-creator of Teletubbies to China.

Bento Box’s Sutikki, which launched in October 2016 and recently opened a UK division in London, has appointed Beijing-based UYoung to oversee distribution of Moon & Me (50×22′) in mainland China and a number of other local territories.

UYoung will handle content re-versioning and will also act as the brand’s master licensee and agent in the region. The companies expect the property to launch in China in 2019.

The show, which is in production for CBeebies in the UK, was developed by Andrew Davenport, who co-created Teletubbies and created In the Night Garden, which UYoung has managed in China for almost a decade.

Sutikki said the show was inspired by tales of toys that come to life when nobody is looking and tells the comical story of a special friendship between two characters from completely different worlds.

Moon & Me will premiere on CBeebies in 2018 and is being produced by Sutikki and Davenport’s prodco Foundling Bird, with Sutikki overseeing global distribution and merchandise licensing.

Increasingly active internationally, UYoung has also collaborated with US indie Little Airplane and recently partnered with Belfast studio Sixteen South to create children’s programmes.
