Das Boot to sail again

Das Boot has been sold into more than 100 territories

Big-budget German drama coproduction Das Boot has been renewed for a second season following its premiere on Sky Deustchland last month.

Producers Bavaria Fiction, Sonar Entertainment and Sky have announced that the second run of the Sky original production will begin filming next year.

Its premiere episode has reached 1.13 million viewers on TV and a further 1.89 million via Sky’s non-linear platforms since it aired 10 days ago. All eight episodes are available via Sky Go and Sky On Demand.

Sky Italia will launch the series on January 4, while Sky UK and Northern Ireland will start airing it in February.

The event series, inspired by Wolfgang Petersen’s 1981 movie adaptation of Lothar-Günther Buchheim’s novel, centres on a German U-boat in the Second World War.

Sonar has sold the show into more than 100 territories, with US streamer Hulu picking it up in October.
