CuriosityStream explores solar System

US factual streaming service CuriosityStream has commissioned a series about the solar system from London-based indie Bigger Bang.

Secrets of the Solar System looks at Saturn and its moons

Secrets of the Solar System (working title) is an eight-episode series made in ultra HD which takes viewers on a journey through the solar system. The programme features access to the world’s space agencies and interviews with people involved in space exploration.

The commission is the third from CuriosityStream for Bigger Bang, following on from Stephen Hawking’s Favorite Places. Fremantle is distributing the series globally.

Secrets of the Solar System is exec produced by Ben Bowie and Iain Riddick, who founded Bigger Bang four years ago.

The eight episodes begin with a grand tour, followed by episodes focusing on the Sun, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, the Asteroid Belt and Pluto and the outer planets.

Riddick said: “Secrets of the Solar System is the remarkable story of the world beyond us, told by the amazing people who sent missions there. Organised as a grand geographical travelogue, it covers the greatest set of journeys ever taken, spanning hundreds of millions of kilometres and building into the ultimate guide.”

The series follows Bigger Bang’s recent six-part series Revolutions: The Ideas that Changed the World, which has been sold into more than 130 territories. Made for PBS in the US and BBC4 in the UK, it explored the secrets of how we developed our modern world, told through six iconic objects.
