CTV takes US Rising Star

CTV has secured the Canadian broadcast rights to the US version of interactive singing competition Rising Star.

The talent show, from Keshet International, debuts on the Bell Media-owned channel on June 22 with a special two-hour premiere.

The series will also be available live and on demand on CTV.ca and the CTV Go app.

The original version of the show aired in Israel on Keshet’s Channel 2 from September to December last year. Since its launch at Mipcom last year, Rising Star has been picked up by more than 25 broadcasters worldwide including ITV in the UK, M6 Group in France, RTL in Germany and Rossiya1 in Russia.

The show allows viewers to vote on the efforts of singers in real time as they perform behind a screen, giving them immediate feedback. If the performer secures 70% of the viewers’ and judges’ votes, the screen rises and the performer is revealed.

The exec producers are Nicolle Yaron (The Voice) and Ken Warwick (American Idol).
