CSI garners record $1.6m second window sale

Viacom-subsidiary TNN – The National Network has acquired certain second window US broadcast rights for the Alliance Atlantis/CBS drama series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation for a record-breaking licence fee of more than US$1.6m per episode.

The series, which continues to hold on to the third highest spot in the US television ratings, is co-produced by Alliance Atlantis and CBS Productions in association with Jerry Bruckheimer Films.

It chronicles the fast-paced lives of a passionate and dedicated team of investigators in Las Vegas who are trained to solve crimes the old fashioned way – by following the evidence.

Judson Martin, exec vp and cfo at Alliance Atlantis commented that {the TNN agreement is believed to be the highest price per episode ever paid for the US second window use, by a basic cable broadcaster{.

The primary components of the TNN agreement are as follows: Commencing September 2002, TNN has the right to air one episode per week, outside primetime.

In addition, commencing in September 2004, TNN has acquired the US second window broadcast rights for all episodes of CSI produced for broadcast at anytime – except weekends – providing it does not compete with the network timeslot.

Alliance Atlantis and CBS Productions have retained the right to sell US weekend syndication broadcast rights for the period commencing September 2004 and ending September 2006.
